Releasing my fear…
…of stretch fabrics.
First of all, I have to say thank you to all of you! This blog has now reached over 10,000 hits! I’m very pleased and hope you all keep reading.
And now for the meat:
I LOVE jersey knit fabric but it’s so difficult to sew. It slips and slides and puckers and up until last night, I’d never finished a project with it.
I finally did it! My favorite sewing shop was giving a class about sewing with knits specifically, so Bri and I signed up. I chose a gaudy gold stretch fabric and made a long shirt with a sash (sash not pictured). I call it a shirt but Mariah Carey would call it a dress.
Yay for me! Next up: The Wine-O shirt.
This will seem quite random, but I used to work at a company that sold industrial sewing machines. What kind of Presser Foot and Feed Dog are you using for elastic/stretchy material. There is a way to prevent slipping.

I’ll take that into consideration Salsa! I modelled it for the Boyfriend last night and umm…it was a dress that time. 😉
You’re a salsero?
WMT – I have a midrange Singer machine and I have no idea what presser foot I’m using. Whatever came standard with the machine. Any suggestions?

It really depends on the fabric. If the fabric is fine and easily damaged by the feed dog, you could use a teflon foot/feed or a rubber feed dog and teflon foot.

Awesome! I’ll look into it! I’ve had some silks ruined from getting caught in the machine. So sad.
