SATC redux
Like most women between the ages of 24 and 50, I went to see the Sex and the City movie with my girlfriends (plus a husband…not mine) and I have to say, at 2.5 hours, it felt tedious at times but I mostly enjoyed it.
SPOILER ALERT
But I have to say, if my friend got ditched at the alter after being jilted by him three times before…I’m quite sure I wouldn’t be giddy to hear they finally tied the knot at city hall. I thought that ending compromised Carrie and made her look weak. So, the ending was lame, in my opinion but the fashion was great!
However, I just found this movie still online and umm…is it me or does it look like SJP just shot up? I realize that she’s over 40 but geeze, her face looks great! Youthful! Radiant! She’s got a smoking hot bod! So why couldn’t they work magic on her veins? It just looks funny. Also, her hands look like they belong on a woman twice her age. I’ve seen her interviewed and she didn’t look like that so I’m wondering if someone is just playing a cruel joke on her.
Aside from that though, I thought the movie gave me enough eye candy and considering the monumental task they had of wrapping up one of the most popular shows ever…they nailed it.

Spoiler here, too
And even if Miranda forgave Steve eventually, I don’t think she should have done it because Carrie guilted her into it. Scummy as ditching someone at the altar is, it’s not quite in the same league in terms of trust-breaking (as opposed to just public humiliation) as cheating is.
But Carrie and Big deserve each other. Yeah, she was weak to take him back, but that’s how she is. As far as I could see, they were both big crybabies. “Oh, she won’t answer the phone for an hour on our wedding day. Boo hoo.” “Oh, he stood me up for the 208th time. Boo hoo. And now I’m going to be mad at you, too, Miranda!”
I loved the movie, too, but I wasn’t happy with the outcomes. Samantha shouldn’t have broken up with Jared, Miranda shouldn’t have forgiven Steve, Carrie shouldn’t have married Big, and Charlotte shouldn’t have gotten pregnant (love your adopted kid!)
Yeah, both of them were crybabies. I never actually thought of it that way but you’re totally right!
And I agree with you about Miranda. I’m not sure I could ever forgive that or even if I loved the person and forgave him, it would be SO HARD to not think about it all the time and compare, ya know?
However, I’m going to disagree on the other two points. Samantha wasn’t built for monogamy so I think breaking up was the right thing to do with one clear point…I kept waiting for them to negotiate and open relationship! It seemed odd to write samantha five years of monogamy when clearly, based on the character’s personalities…they totally could have been poly. Just an opinion.
And like my friend said at the theatre, “Charlotte is a pretty pretty princess who gets everything she wants but she’s a NICE pretty pretty princess so that’s why I’m happy for her” I tend to agree. I was happy that things worked out for her because she seemed to have the most solid outlook on things and was in a happy relationship.
